For real estate agents, increasing a home’s energy efficiency provides another way to market it. The MLS has added a feature where Realtors can disclose homes that have “green” features. Seven single-family homes for sale in Naperville advertise having at least one “green” feature. The most common listed are tankless hot water heaters, enhanced air filtration, and low-flow commodes and fixtures.
The Ringelsteins’ home is coded green on the MLS. They also have a large green check mark in their front yard, and their home’s energy efficiency is promoted on their marketing pieces and throughout the home.
“I think buyers like being able to save money on energy bills due to green features, but they would not be willing to pay significantly more for those features when they are purchasing a home,” .
