Answer
This can be caused by incomplete pollination back in the spring, or severe stress on the tree overall (trunk or root damage, perhaps). If you have never pruned your tree, it can be overwhelmed by too much fruit one summer and shed most of the small unripe peaches. Try thinning them next year when they are first forming—about the size of grapes—so only one or two, or maybe three, are left per cluster. All commercial growers do this to increase fruit set, size and quality of fruit.

Why are my indoor herbs dying? The only thing I can think is that they were too near the air conditioning vent.

I love growing herbs indoors, too, but during the summer months I move mine to the front porch. I bet the air conditioning is making them dry out or making the soil temperature drop. Maybe move them away from the air conditioner and get them closer to a window with sunshine.
